Our Family

Our Maestros

Our Shipibo Maestros & founders are Maestro Deodemero Matios Maynas and Maestra Rosenda Melendez Flores. They both come from a long line of healers in their family and have been working with Ayahuasca for over 20 years. With experience working in a variety of different well-renowned centers in Iquitos and Pucallpa, they are now working for themselves, together as a family. Whilst both these Maestros listed here founded the centre, we are in the beginning of our sacred journey, running small and intimate retreats in our centre. The number of retreat participants attending each retreat will determine if the medicine is served by one or both of these two powerful Maestros connected to the fertile soil of Jochipapanete. For those of you who join us at the start of our journey you may well be blessed with a personal retreat package simply by choosing to come early, which is a very personal gift only open at this stage of our journey.

  • Shipibo Healer of Ayahuasca Center

    Deodomero Matios Maynas

    SHIPIBO HEALER

Maestro Deodomero was 15 years old when his uncle returned to their village after a long dieta. Maestro Deodomero remembers his relatives referring to his uncle as a Muraya (the highest degree of spiritual development in Shipibo shamanism), and telling stories about their healing ceremonies with him. Maestro Deodomero’s heart was touched so much by listening to stories of his uncle and watching his ceremonies that he first drank Ayahuasca that same year at the age of 15 and began his first dieta at 23 years old, under the guidance of his Father (who was also a Shipibo shaman). Maestro Deodomero has dedicated his life to being a healer ever since, teaching many students of his own and continually dieting many plants to expand on the wisdom given to him by his ancestors. With over 28 years’ experience working with Ayahuasca, it is a privilege to go into ceremony with Maestro Deodomero and receive his heart felt icaro.

Maestra Rosenda is passionate about her ancestral roots in healing, and continues to diet many plants each year to expand her knowledge and healing abilities. • Healing Center Maestros Assistant

    Eduardo Santiago Sumaeta Romaina

    MAESTROS ASSISTANT

Santiago is from the community of Puerto Belén del Río Bajo Ucayali. He grew up in his community until he reached the age of 7 years old. At 17 he left his town for the city of Lima, to support his very humble family. He worked for many years and met his partner Eliata, who is the niece of Maestro Deodomero. Santiago and Eliata made the decision to return to their community with the family. His ancestors were all Shipibo Shamans yet Santiago took no interest in the medicine until he met his cousin, Maestro Hernan. He then made a decision that completely changed his life. He found a passion to help his family and community through medicinal plants. In 2017 he asked Maestro for a diet and for three months he made a dieta with Jochi Papannete. Upon completing his dieta, he proceeded to diet 25 medicinal plants that Maestro Deodomero prepared for him. He then went on a three month diet of the red pioneer plant, albaca, and mapacho. As he finished these diets Santiago is very happy to be a strong and healthy man for medicine and graduation with his three teachers. Santiago is now 36 years old and has five years of experience with the ancestral Ayahuasca medicine. He is learning more and more how to help many people, who really want healing. Now, since last year Santiago has been here, with his wife’s family, at the Jochipapanete Center. He gives his deepest love and gratitude to Maestro Deodomero.

Volunteer With Us

Volunteering as a facilitator at Jochipapanete is a great way to deepen your own awakening and healing journey. Being a facilitator gives you the opportunity to assist others on their journey with ayahuasca, which in turn deepens your own relationship with the medicine. As a facilitator you will build your empathy toward others through developing your ability to listen, you will grow the compassion in your heart by being of service to others and you will broaden your perspective of Ayahuasca through observing participants grow and change throughout the retreat.
